Angel
Oberoi, President, and founder of Gossamer Books LLC
commented, “Educational graphic novels offer value,
variety, and a new medium for educators who acknowledge
the impact of visuals. They are ideal for librarians and
K12 teachers for introducing students to literature and US
history. This program provides an ideal opportunity for
libraries and schools to experiment with this new medium
without incurring large costs.”
The
educational graphic novel “Abraham Lincoln: The Civil War
President” received critical acclaim from Publishers
Weekly, who reviewed the graphic novel as “superb
introduction to Lincoln’s presidency for grade-schoolers.”
Larry Gonick, winner of the 2003 Harvey Award
commended the book as being “engagingly written, and
beautifully produced.” Jim Cox, Editor-in-Chief,
Midwest Book Review stated that “the graphic novel
format is ideal for conveying a historical biography in a
manner guaranteed to attract a whole new generation of
young readers to the life story of one of America's
greatest presidents, making ‘Abraham Lincoln: The Civil
War President’ an ideal addition to family, school, and
community library American Biography collections!”.
Based
on extensive research and historical accounts, this
educational graphic novel weaves together the most
dramatic scenes of the Civil war, from the Underground
Railroad and the key battles, to the Gettysburg Address
and the destruction of the South. It also explores
lesser-known stories such as the role of women on the
battlefield, and even the frenzy of pet goats in the White
House! Above all, the story gives the reader a unique
view of President Lincoln as a person.
